The Bruins, a boys U-14 soccer team from Newberg, qualified for the
semifinals of the Presidents Cup tournament Sunday with a 5-2 victory over Roseburg.
The Bruins play Saturday against the MYSA Storm, a squad from McMinnville; the
Bruins have split two games against the Storm this season. The match kicks off at 4:30
p.m. at Lakeridge High School.
The Bruins cruised through bracket play of the tournament with a 4-0 record.
In their first game at Newberg High School, the Bruins defeated Portland City United 4-1,
followed by a 2-1 win over Southside. Dillon Windsor scored on a header with less than 30
seconds remaining in the game to hand the Bruins the win, said Bruin coach Tim Manley.
It was interesting because there were some injuries so there was some
stoppage time and the other coach had been looking for some additional stoppage time and
it worked out for our advantage, he said.
On Saturday, the Bruins beat Tualatin Hills 4-1 before Sundays win over
Roseburg. Edwardo Capetillo recorded a hat trick in that game.
Manley said one thing about the Bruins he likes is that the scoring is spread
out between players.
Weve got several guys who have been doing the scoring, he
said. Its not just one or two guys. |
