Continuing its progress to the state championship, the Newberg High School
boys water polo team defeated Tualatin Monday, 11-6.
Led by senior Jake Kinne, the Tigers remain undefeated in league play with
the road win. Kinne, last years Pac-9 Conference most valuable player, led the team
in both goals (four) and steals (nine).
Seniors Matt McCreith and Kael Schlactus contributed two goals apiece in the
victory, while junior Mitch Boysen added three for the Tigers. For the game, no Newberg
player recorded more than a single assist, although seven players recorded one.
Senior goalkeeper Todd Bradley recorded six blocks and three steals.
The Tigers next face West Salem today (Wednesday) in a 7:30 p.m. matchup and
finish the regular season against Lake Oswego Oct. 27.
The Tigers will get a chance to go up against the top team in the state Oct. 30
when the visiting Westview Wildcats visit Newberg. The two teams have yet to face each
other this season, although they have played in different brackets of the same
tournaments. The winner of the match at Newberg will likely be favored to win the state
championship. Tournament play begins Nov. 7 in Beaverton. |
