Perhaps the largest citywide prayer event that doesnt fall on a
holiday is coming up the annual Mayors Prayer Breakfast.
Each year, Newberg, Dundee and St. Paul residents and mayors join forces for
the morning worship and fellowship breakfast, this year slated for 8 a.m. May 17 in Klages
Dining Hall at George Fox University.
The theme for the 17th-annual event will be Prayer, Heartbeat of Our
Community, and organizers say health caregivers providers will figure into the
program.
This years guest speaker will be Alice Gray, author of the best-selling
series, Stories from the Heart. Retired physician Leonard Silvers will also
speak.
The prayer breakfast will be a return to the area for Gray, who previously
served as director of services for five Crisis Pregnancy Centers in the greater Portland
area. She now lives in southwestern Arizona with her husband.
Described as an inspirational conference speaker at community and Christian
events, Gray has served in womens ministries for more than two decades and has been
an advisor and teacher for a number of Bible study groups.
But she is probably best known as creator and compiler of the Stories
for the Heart book series, which has garnered various awards including the
Evangelical Christian Publishers Gold Book Award, the Retailers Choice Award and two Angel
Awards for excellence in media.
The series has resulted in 34 books with more than five million copies in
print. Gray is also co-compiler of the Lists to Live book series, and has been
a guest on a variety of Christian radio and television shows in the United States and
Canada.
Tickets for the breakfast are $10 each, and table sponsorship to seat eight
people is $125.
To purchase tickets or sponsor a table, contact Edna Williams at

Threads and More, and Friendsview Manor.
More than 400 people attended last years event, honoring public service
with guest speaker Mark Kroeker, chief of the Portland Police Bureau. |
