In three homes last year, one in Newberg and two in McMinnville, 58
families were given a temporary place to stay and a warm bed.
According to Edel Resendez, case manager at the Community Action Program of
Yamhill County (YCAP), these rooms are in need of an upgrade.
But they are going about it in an unusual way.
Resendez said that YCAP is asking people to adopt one of the four
bedrooms in each shelter and donate items that will be used to make them more homey for
the families who will use them.
Were at the point where everything is really run down,
Resendez said. We want you to come and look at the room and make it look the way you
think it should look for people in need.
Painting the rooms is not necessary because George Fox students already took
care of that during their Serve Day events last week. But other items such as floor
coverings, sturdy used furniture, beds, dressers and couches, window dressings and
bathroom pieces would be accepted.
Rooms have served as shelter for families with as many as nine members and
are available on a conditional basis for single women, as well.
Bedrooms are up for adoption, she said, but the rest of the house needs
upgrades as well.
Resendez said donations have already begun coming in, but more will be needed
to meet the needs of the families they serve. Cash donations are welcome, as well.
Anyone interested in making a donation may contact Terri at YCAP at
