April 28, 2004
Ralph D. Farmer
   Ralph Donald Farmer died April 21, 2004, at his home in Dundee. He was 56.
   He was born June 22, 1947, to Colleen Gentry and Ralph Farmer in McMinnville. He grew up in the Newberg and Dundee areas and lived in Dayton several years before moving to Dundee, where he spent the rest of his life. He served in the Navy from 1965 to 1967 as an aviation machinist mate.
  His family said he was a jack of all trades, having worked as a mechanic, surveyor and drafter, dock worker, maintenance man and welder. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
   Survivors include: son Mark Farmer of Watson, Pa.; daughter Donna Schwalbe of Seattle; sisters, Velma Swafford of McArthur, Calif., and Sharon Stacey of Colton; mother Colleen Gentry of Dundee and Ralph Farmer of McArthur, Calif.; and one grandchild.
   A graveside service was held Monday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in McMinnville with Al Moore and the Rev. Jim Peterson officiating.
   Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice or a charity of one’s choice.

Elizabeth Hamilton
   Former Newberg resident Elizabeth “Gail” Hamilton died April 23, 2004, at Beaverton care facility. She was 100.
   She was born to Lambert and Johanna (Boon) Haan in West LaFayette, Ind., on Dec. 16, 1903. At an early age she moved with her family to Provost, Alberta, Canada, where they homesteaded in 1912. She began teaching in 1925. On Dec, 1, 1934, she married Alfred Hamilton and they moved to New York City. They relocated in 1949 to Newberg, where they settled a farm on Yamhill Highway. Her husband preceded her in death in January 1960. She worked at Tektronix in the cafeteria in 1967 before becoming a sorority house mother for two years, and then working as a live-in aid, assisting others who needed her care until she was 80 years old.
   She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, and the Seattle Mariner’s games; as a liberal Democrat she followed politics. Her 100th birthday was spent with many friends and relatives.
   Survivors include: daughter Judy Allen of Seattle; sons, Richard Hamilton of Renton, Wash., and Dewey Hamilton of Tigard; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by sons Robert and Gary.
   A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg with Pastor Dale Southorn officiating.

Agnes Hammons
   Agnes Hammons died April 20, 2004, at her home in Newberg. She was 77.
   She was born June 8, 1926, to John and Lucy (Van Houten) Van Zanten in Uxbridge, Mass. She received her early education in southern California and for a few years worked at a book bindery there. In 1945 she married Charles Williams. They divorced in 1951.
   She worked at various jobs, including dairy and retail clerk. On June 15, 1958, she married Olen Hammons in Las Vegas. In 1978 they moved to Newberg, where they have since resided. She worked at the Horse Trader for a couple years and at A-dec Inc. for 10 years before retiring in 1990. He preceded her in death in October 1991.
   She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and her friends.
   Survivors include: daughters, Shirley Williams of Newberg and Charlene Edwards of East Glacier, Mont.; brother Titus Van Zanten of Bellflower, Mont.; grandson Samuel Edwards of Kent, Wash.; and step-grandchildren, Joy, Joe, Jessica, Channing and Olen, all of Newberg.
   A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg with Pastor Tom Struck and Chaplain Bill Larson officiating. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. that day at Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the Chehalem Senior Center in care of Attrell’s Newberg Chapel, 207 Villa Road, Newberg, OR 97132.

Dorothea Z. Robinson
   Longtime Newberg resident Dorothea Zell Robinson died April 18, 2004, surrounded by family at Friendsview Manor. She was 94.
   She was born Aug. 19, 1909, to Charles and Alma Struthers in Bull Run. She grew up on a farm near Tigard. After graduating from Beaverton High School, she trained and served as a nurse. She married Lester Robinson on June 6, 1934, and moved to Portland. They moved to Newberg in the early 1970s. He preceded her in death in April 1978. Years later she moved to Friendsview Manor.
   Survivors include: son Gary Robinson; daughter Mary Ann Trumps; grandchildren, David and Karen Robinson and Jim and Dan Trumps; and great-grandchildren, Chase Trumps and Julianne, Mitchell and Nathan Robinson.
   A graveside service was held April 21 at Crescent Grove Cemetery in Tigard.


April 21, 2004
Travis L. Eoff
   Former Newberg resident Travis Luke Eoff died in an automobile accident April 14, 2004, in Madras. He was 27.
   He was born June 28, 1976, to Bill Eoff and Nita (Roberts) Duncan in Salem. He grew up in Alaska and graduated from Portland State University. He worked as a marine biologist with the Oregon Fish and Wildlife, Mason, Bruce & Gerard and Portland General Electric.
   He enjoyed kayaking, climbing, hiking, basketball and cycling.
   Survivors include: mother and stepfather, Nita and Lee Duncan, of Newberg; father and stepmother Bill and Sue Eoff of Kodiak, Alaska; sister Anecia Robinson; nephew and niece Caleb and Eliana of Tacoma; grandparents, John and Grace Roberts of Newberg; and grandfather, Keith Eoff of Elgin.
  A service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Newberg Friends Church. He will be cremated.

Olaf W. Holte
   Olaf “Ole” Walter Holte died April 16, 2004, at his home in   Newberg. He was 92.
  He was born July 22, 1911, to Knute and Ada Holte, immigrants from Norway, on a farm near Sherwood, N.D. He married Junice Aarhus in 1936. He moved in 1940 to Juneau, Alaska, to work gold mines, sending for his wife and child shortly after. Heeding advice to leave Alaska after the attacks on Pearl Harbor, he moved to Bremerton, Wash., where he became a welder repairing ships damaged at war.
  He lived in many Oregon cities, including Nyssa, Coos Bay and McMinnville, before settling about 30 years ago in Newberg. He worked in many capacities, including at a sugar beet factory, in construction and at a lumber company.
   Survivors include: wife Junice of Newberg; daughters, Gail and Ann; son Olaf Jr.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   A memorial service was held Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg.

April 17, 2004
Sean A. Collis
   Sean Alan Collis died April 1, 2004, in Peoria, Ill. He was 35.
He was born March 27, 1969, to Dale and Sharon Collis in Galesburg, Ill. He graduated from Galva High School and Millikin University. His musical career saw performances at Opryland, Chicago’s Navy Pier, Six Flags and alongside Mickey Rooney in “Sugar Babies” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He traveled to South America, Australia and New Zealand working for Disney, Celebrity and Cunard cruise lines. He was working as a corporate training coordinator in Davenport, Iowa, at the time of his death.
   He enjoyed fishing with his dad, remodeling projects and time with friends. He enjoyed hiking in Oregon with his sister, Shelley. He also enjoyed assisting his brother, Stacey, with his horse-breeding operation in Colorado and was himself a member of the American Paint Horse Association.
   Survivors include: sister Shelley of Newberg; brother Stacey of Colorado and parents Dale and Sharon of Galva, Ill.
   A funeral service was held April 6 in Galva.

Audrey A. McNealy
   Newberg resident Audrey A. McNealy died April 12, 2004. She was 89.
   She was born Jan. 4, 1915, to George and Dorothy (Sells) Shaw in Hannibal, Mo. She graduated from Jefferson High School and married William McNealy on Sept. 6, 1945. The couple owned and operated Bill’s Cafe in Portland for several years. He preceded her in death in 1968, after which she moved to Tigard, where she lived for 30 years before moving to Newberg.
   She enjoyed fishing and camping with her her husband, as well as crocheting, spending time with her dog and have her great-great-nieces sit in her lap. She taught herself to swim at age 75. Her family said she was a wonderful cook.
   Survivors include: stepson William McNeely of Burleson, Texas; sisters, Elva Kleger of Salem, Margaret Trebelhorn of Tigard and Edith Bartlett of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
   No funeral service will be held at her request. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Gary A. Thurow
   Gary Albert Thurow of Newberg died April 7, 2004, on his mining claim near Galice. He was 62.
   He was born Dec. 14, 1941, to Wilbert and Elma (Beckwith) Thurow in Baraboo, Wis. After graduating from Merimac High School in Wisconsin he enlisted in the Air Force. A passion for mining gold led him to Colorado, Alaska and, finally, Oregon. He married Roberta Nelson on Dec. 23, 1981.
   Survivors include: wife Roberta of Newberg; stepdaughters, Dawn and Kristine Gresham of Newberg; stepson Robert Gresham of Newberg; granddaughter Devin Beeson of Newberg; brothers, Marvin of Fondulac, Wis., Darrell of Whitewater, Wis., Russell of Texas and Larry of Cornelius.
   No service was held.

Melinda B. Sprecher
   Melinda B. Sprecher of Newberg died of natural causes April 8, 2004, in Newberg. She was 95.
   She was born Feb. 8, 1909 to Daniel and Wilhemenia (Beerwagon) Baesler in New Leipzig, N.D. She was educated through the sixth grade and moved to Oregon in 1932. She worked as a house cleaner and at a cannery. She married Albert Sprecher on June 6, 1927. He preceded her in death in 1970.
   She enjoyed gardening and flowers, painting and wallpapering. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg.
   Survivors include: son Melvin of McMinnville; daughters, Virginia Wahl of Newberg and Nikki Sprecher of Salem; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Dan.
   Her burial was April 12 at Valley View Cemetery.

Earl E. Neidigh
   Earl Eugene Neidigh of Newberg died April 1, 2004, at a Portland care facility. He was 84.
   He was born Sept. 28, 1919, to Edwin and Sallie (DeLancy) Neidigh near Ryan, Iowa. He married Ina Haberstich on March 18, 1939. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in western Europe. His unit was among those that made up the second wave in the D-Day assault on Omaha Beach. He survived the beach landing without injury, but was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received later in the war.
   After his honorable discharge in 1945, he began studies at George Fox College (now George Fox University), graduating with degrees in history and religion. While enrolled at Wesleyan Evangelical Seminary, he was drawn away from being a pastor to work behind the scenes for congregations.
   He joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1954 and worked at many post offices in Portland, spending most of his time driving a city route near Beaverton. He was postmaster of Nehalem in 1974 and at Milton-Freewater in 1977. He retired in 1980 and moved to Centralia, Wash. In retirement he was an agent for Gelders & Associates Realty and a manager at VIPs restaurant (now Denny’s).
  After several moves he settled in 1988 in Newberg, remaining here for all but a couple years until his death.
   Survivors include: wife Ina of Gresham; son Larry Lamoine of West Palm Beach, Fla.; daughter Lori Lynn of Gresham; foster daughter Linda Bunnell of Milwaukie; sisters, Martha Epperson and Dorothy Neidigh, both of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
   A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. today (Saturday) at Newberg Free Methodist Church with pastors Shaun McNay and Roger Keller officiating. Committal is private.

Michele S. Butterfield
   Michele S. Butterfield died due to complications from ovarian cancer April 9, 2004, at her home in Dundee. She was 52.
   She was born March 2, 1952, to George and Karen (Madsen) Griffith in Cottage Grove. She grew up in McMinnville. As a student at Linn-Benton Community College she volunteered her time to help disabled students. In 1983, she founded Quest Academy, located in Tigard. It was designed to tutor and train injured workers and students of all ages with special needs and has helped thousands of high school students.
   Her family said her positive attitude and shining spirit never wavered during her three-and-a-half-year bout with ovarian cancer.
   Survivors include: husband Bill of Dundee; father George Griffith of McMinnville; sons, Solomon Stoffer of Beaverton and Matthew Butterfield of Portland; sister Gail Coughlin of Calamus, Iowa; brother Bruce Griffith of Springfield; and grandchild Brittany.
   She was preceded in death by her mother, Karen Griffith.
   A service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Chapel of Macy and Son Funeral Directors in McMinnville with Patti Jahnke officiating.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Juliette’s House.

Orin L. Stahlnecker
   Orin LaVerne Stahlnecker died from complications of cancer on April 8, 2004, in the house he built in Newberg. He was 84.
   He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Elwood to Dan and Wyona (Sturfus) Stahlnecker. He attended grade school there and graduated from Estacada High School in 1937. He drove truck for a small saw mill in Scotts Mill and later worked for his brother at the Canyon Creek Garage in Carlton. On Nov. 10, 1940, he married Erma Rogers in Lake Oswego. He served for 16 months in the Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands and Japan.
   In 1949 the couple moved to Newberg to work on the Rogers family farm. He maintained a dairy farm and at the same time drove school bus for the Ewing Young School District. After selling his cattle he worked for Russell Baker on his dairy farm for many years. He then worked at Farmer’s Feed Store in Newberg and later as a maintenance man for the Newberg School District for 17 years. After retiring in 1986 he continued to farm and make things with his hands of wood and metal.
   He enjoyed repairing and rebuilding farm equipment. He built cedar chests for all of his grandchildren and made picture frames and checkerboards from wood, most of which he cut from trees on his farm. His family said he was a friend to everyone and a great source of information to family and friends about electrical wiring, carpentry and mechanics.
   He was a member of West Chehalem Friend’s Church and was especially interested in the Sunday school class, of which he was a member.
   Survivors include: wife Erma; sons, Dan and Walt; daughter Lorraine Cleark; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by six brothers.
   A funeral service was held Tuesday at Attrell’s Newberg Chapel in Newberg with former pastor David Fendall and pastor Paul Almquist officiating. Committal followed at Newberg Friends Cemetery.
   Memorial contributions may be made to West Chehalem Friends Church for summer camp scholarships in care of Attrell’s Newberg Chapel 207 Villa Road, Newberg, OR 97132.

Lois A. Morgan
   Lois Amanda Morgan of Yamhill died April 9, 2004, at her home. She was 78.
   She was born June 6, 1925, to Loren and Elsie (Douthit) Smith in Yamhill, where she was raised and educated. She married Paul Morgan Aug. 7, 1941, in Vancouver, Wash. She drove school busses for many years and also owned and operated L.M. Fantasy Crafts in Yamhill. She made wedding cakes for many years.
   She enjoyed crafts, doll making, sewing, gardening, fishing, hunting and raising koi fish.
   Survivors include: sons, Wayne of McMinnville and Randy of Craig, Ark.; daughter, Donna Sutton of Yamhill; brothers, Robert Smith of Tillamook, Paul Smith of Prineville and Ivan Smith of Hebo; sisters, Wilma Reece of Placentia, Calif., and May Rowland of McMinnville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Oscar, LaRoy and Bud Payne and Ralph Smith; and sister Evelyn Gilbert-Carrol.
   A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Macy and Son Funeral Directors in McMinnville.

Arthur R. Speidel
   Arthur Raymond Speidel died April 11, 2004, at his home in St. Paul. He was 77.
   He was born March 22, 1927, to John and Louise (Findel) Speidel in McLoughin, S.D. He moved to Newberg in 1942. During World War II he served in the Navy. On June 14, 1952, he married Dolores Bernard and they made their home in St. Paul, where they have since resided.
   He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, as well as playing horseshoes, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
   Survivors include: wife Dolores of St. Paul; daughters, Jackie Halter of St. Paul, Jill Danley of Woodburn and Joan Fessler; brothers, Martin of Oceanside, Calif., Harold of Salem and Elmer of Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada; sister Shirley Bauder of Tillamook; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Attrell’s Newberg Chapel with the Rev. Peter Blank officiating. Committal is private at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Paul J. Buchanan
   Paul James Buchanan died April 4, 2004, at Providence Newberg Hospital. He was 60.
   He was born Nov. 18, 1943, to James and Ruth Buchanan in Columbus, Ohio. He served in the Navy for four years during the 1960s. He worked for 13 years in quality control at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake, Ohio. He later worked for AB Dick in Cleveland for several years before transferring to Worcester, Mass., where he met his future wife, Marion. He moved to Pahrump, Nev., where he worked as a quality control supervisor in cable operations at the Nevada Test Site. He later became a Century 21 Realtor.
   The couple moved to Oregon after falling in love with it on a vacation. He held multiple positions for Boeing and later became a supervisor with Matsushita Electronic Materials in Forest Grove. He became disabled in 2001.
   Being of Scottish descent, he enjoyed the Portland Highland Games, as well as and writing. His family said he was a loving and loyal husband and a hard worker.
   Survivors include: wife Marion; daughter, Bonnie Jo Lang of Lorain, Ohio; sister Bev Merk of Middleburg Heights, Ohio; grandchildren, Katie and Jack Fisher of Lorain; and many aunts, uncles, cousins nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents.
   A funeral service was held Thursday at Attrell’s Newberg Chapel with Pastor Bruce Sloan officiating. A committal service followed at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Redverse Adamson
   Newberg resident Redverse Adamson died April 1, 2004, at a Newberg care facility. He was 86.
   He was born July 6, 1917, to William and Rowena (Wyatt) Adamson in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada. At 10 his family moved to Toronto, Canada. After high school he joined the Royal Canadian Infantry and served from 1930 to 1945 as a lieutenant. He married Mary Alma Power on Dec. 30, 1939, in Toronto. He worked in assembly at DeHaviland Aircraft until moving to San Diego, where they lived until he retired from the North Island Naval Air Station.
   They moved to Newberg in 1979. During retirement he helped out at the Newberg Thrift Shop.
   He enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a past member of the Elks.
   Survivors include: wife Mary of Newberg; son Douglas of Hillsboro; daughters, Barbara Crane of Dayton, Tenn., Norma Cooper of San Diego and Millie Drapou of Everett, Wash.; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his son, Larry.
  A memorial service was held Friday at Attrell’s Newberg Chapel with Pastor Shaun McNay officiating. A committal service was private.

James E. Morris
   James Edward Morris of Newberg died April 1, 2004. He was 79.
   He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Cadez, Ohio. He married Doris Deane on Aug. 19, 1948. He was a missionary and for 12 years served as the executive director of Evangelical Friends Mission. He lived in Newberg since 1992.
   He was a member of Newberg Friends Church. He attended several institutes of higher education, including Malone, Taylor, Cleveland and Wheaton colleges and Day Star University.
   Survivors include: wife Doris and brothers, Robert and John.
   He was preceded in death by sister Virginia Rainsberger.
   A private, graveside service was held Monday at Newberg Friends Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 14 at Newberg Friends Church.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Friends Mission.

William E. Kuhne
   William Edward Kuhne died after suffering complications from kidney failure on March 28, 2004, at his home in Tualatin. He was 83.
   He was born Oct. 7, 1920, to Carl and Marjorie (Sharky) Kuhne in Ontario. With his family he moved to Portland at a young age, graduated from Franklin High School and afterward joined the Navy. He became a chief aviation mechanic and flew in patrol squadrons. He saw active duty during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the military in 1956 and after 20 years working as a person property appraiser for Clackamas County he retired from there, too.
   He married Beverly Jean (Bacon) November 1947 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigard. He lived many years on the outskirts of Newberg.
   He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion and the Oregon City and Tualatin Elks lodges. He was also a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood.
   Survivors include: wife Beverly; son Douglas of Gresham; daughters Leslie King of Milwaukie and Allison Wood of Tualatin; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   No formal services were held per his request.

William T. Lawson
   Longtime Newberg resident William Thomas Lawson died April 4, 2004. He was 42.
   He was born April 28, 1961, to Kenneth and Ruby (Doty) Lawson in Web City, Mo. He worked for 11 years at Willamette Shelling Inc. He lived in Newberg all his life, until three months ago when he moved to Carlton. He married Sandi Vaughn on May 5, 1981.
   He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and four-wheeling.
   Survivors include: parents Kenneth and Ruby Lawson of Newberg; brothers, John of McMinnville and Christopher of Dayton; sisters, Julie Bush of Carlton, Connie Martin of Canby, Darlene Hill of Sherwood and Carol Callahan of Orlando, Fla.; sons, Michael and Steven, both of Newberg; daughter Kimberly Lawson of Carlton; and numerous aunts and uncles.
   A service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) at Attrell’s Newberg Chapel.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the William Lawson Family Donations Fund, to go toward service expenditures, at Key Bank.

Virginia L. Smith
   Former Newberg resident Virginia Lee Smith died of a stroke March 29, 2004, in Clackamas. She was 85.
   She was born May 14, 1918, to Earl and Mary (Smith) Boyle in Salem. She graduated from Salem High School in 1936. She married Laurence Bradford in 1939. She ran the Canby Greyhound Bus depot from 1949 to 1961. Her husband preceded her in death in 1963.
   She married Willard L.C. Smith in 1964. They owned and operated Dents Stationery and Gift Store in Newberg from 1969 to 1984. He preceded her in death in 1987.
   She worked at the Bridal Shop in Newberg and at Sleighbells Christmas Shop near Newberg, retiring in 1994. She was living at an assisted living facility in Molalla at the time of her death.
   She enjoyed golfing, family, pinochle and entertaining. She was involved with the Newberg Area Chamber of Commerce and Business and Professional Women. She volunteered with the Silverton School District.
   Survivors include: brother Ed Boyle of Crooked River; sister Marian Lorraine of Salem; daughters, Mary Lee Schuebel of Mulino, Barbara Brown of Gladstone and Linda Arendt of Aurora; stepdaughters, Cindy Frahs of Vancouver, Wash., and Robin Philpot of Kirkland, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by brother Art Boyle and sister Kathryn Johnson-Klupenger.
   A service was held Saturday at Smyrna United Church of Christ in Canby.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the Molalla Fire Department, Main Street, Molalla, OR.

Marie A. Klohs
   Newberg resident Marie Aleen Klohs died March 31, 2004, at Providence Newberg Hospital. She was 70.
   She was born May 6, 1933, to George and Leota (Watts) Trent in Attica, Kan. She moved to St. Paul at age 5 and to Newberg in 1941. She graduated form Newberg High School in 1951. In 1950 she married Ray Klohs. She was a homemaker and designed their dream home, which they built on Chehalem Mountain in the 1970s.
   She enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling cross-country with her husband in their motorhome.
   Survivors include: husband Ray Klohs of Newberg; sons, Michael of Newberg and Ronald of Kailua, Hawaii; brother Charles Trent of Westwego, La.; five grandchildren and four nieces.
   She was preceded in death by daughter Kathleen Vorderstrasse and brothers George and Russell Trent.
   A Rosary was held Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Newberg with father Jim Nibler officiating. A funeral mass was held Tuesday at the church, with committal following at Valley View Memorial Park.

Judith A. Cassidy
  
Lifelong Newberg resident Judith “Judy” Anne Cassidy died of cancer April 2, 2004, in Portland. She was 42.
   She was born May 11, 1961, to Arthur and Florence (Rober) Cassidy in Newberg, where she remained her entire life. She graduated from high school in 1979, worked a few years in the grocery business and later at Newberg Factory 2-U. Though she fell ill with cancer she continued to work.
   She enjoyed gardening and was known for her talents in carpentry, plumbing and cooking, family members said. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Newberg.
   Survivors include: sisters, Mary Lou Dittman of Newberg, Terry Miller of Salem and Patti Cassidy of Newberg; uncle Frank and aunt Donna Tice; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
   Chapel viewing and visitation is today (Wednesday) from 8 a.m. until the recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Attrell’s Newberg Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Newberg with Fathers Gregory Gage and Jim Nibler officiating. Concluding service will follow at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in St. Paul.
  Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter Building Fund or the American Cancer Association in care of Attrell’s Newberg Chapel, 207 Villa Road, Newberg, OR 97132.

Chester E. Cartwright
   Former Newberg resident Chester Edwin Cartwright died of a stroke April 5, 2004, in Portland. He was 86.
   He was born Jan. 24, 1918, to Isaac Cartwright and Josphine Allard in St. John’s, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked with Pacific Fruit and Produce for 45 years. He married Edna Bowen on Jan 25. 1942.
   Survivors include: daughters, Judy Cartwright of Portland and Gail Adams of Fortuna N.D.; son Glen Cartwright of Portland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   A service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newberg Shilo Inn.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
